Farewell to Lucio Caputo, ambassador of Italian wine in NY

Lucio Caputo, president of the Italian Wine & Food Institute in New York, died on Monday 8th July. We have lost a central and charismatic figure who promoted quality Italian wines and products across the ocean.
The sad news was announced by his son Giorgio and wife Marie Luisa: Lucio Caputo passed away in a Manhattan hospital after a short but intense battle against illness.

Our memories of Lucio Caputo
“He loved Italy and worked tirelessly for decades for his cause, hoping to bring Italy and the United States closer”: this is the brief, emblematic portrait described by his family when announcing his death. But for many Italian producers and professionals (and especially for Civiltà del bere) Lucio Caputo’s memory is much more vivid and detailed. “He was a friend of my grandfather and of Italian wine,” underlines Alessandro Torcoli, director of Civiltà del bere.
“For me, hundreds of images come to mind of him next to my grandfather Pino Khail, busy with pioneering and one-off promotional events for Italian wine in the USA.”
