Horizontal wine tasting of the 1974 vintage
About 500 participants, more than 100 MWs or MW students among them, never had so much English been spoken at one of our events organised in Italy. The idea of suggesting the event for the 40 years of our magazine Civiltà del bere as an “aperitif” of the IMW Symposium to be opened the following day, was a winner. The level of the public was very high, as was the venue (the Four Seasons Hotel in Florence), and no less so the wineries and wines: 48 wineries, divided between the Conventino Ballroom, a former seventeenth-century convent church, and the welcoming Sala Magnolia.
Thanks to all the participants, especially to our foreign friends who read my newsletter. The horizontal tasting of the 1974 vintage, the founding year of Civiltà del bere, was a particularly exciting moment: seven splendid wines and the audience of 45 experts voted their favourite among them by acclamation, a masterpiece from Umbria: Vigna Monticchio Rubesco Riserva, voted “the forty-year wine”; well done Chiara Lungarotti and Teresa Severini, who launched the idea of this tasting months ago and earned this acknowledgement!
